MSJ Fall Sports Wrap-Up

This year our MSJ girl’s team made it to the semi-finals on a record of 11-5-1 (Wins-Losses-Ties). The boy’s team this year got knocked out in the round of 16 on a record of 5-8-1. This season was a lot of fun to watch and be a part of. Our top scorers this year were Lauren Costales and Ryan LaForest.

Lauren Costales had 24 goals and 9 assists this season. Costales was kind enough to agree to an interview. She stated that their favorite game was their second in Proctor, “It was really nice to finally beat them after they’ve been beating everyone 10-0 these past years.” Costales had a hat trick in that game. When asked about her team she said, “This was my favorite soccer team that I’ve been a part of. We were all super close and we (The Upper and Lower classmen) welcomed the help and talent from the Eighth graders.” They had many close games throughout their season and they had a couple games that went into overtime that were ended by a penalty kick. “It was tough,” Lauren said, “I don’t think we were robbed in any particular game but we definitely had some tough ones.” Lauren was a senior this year and will be greatly missed next season.

Ryan LaForest was another senior. He had 7 goals and 3 assists. Ryan’s favorite game was the game against Sharon Academy that they won 8-2. “It was my first hat-trick,” Ryan said, “We were also losing in the first half and to get ourselves together and turn the game around like that felt good.” Ryan enjoyed playing on the team, “We had a lot of young kids. We didn’t quite get the season we wanted but we had a lot of fun.

Overall MSJ is proud of their soccer teams and will look forward to what our athletes do in the Winter sports. Go Mounties!
