Dear Parents of Mounties~

It has been a great start to our school year! A hot but great start! We met in the chapel first thing on Tuesday morning to begin our year with prayer, and a reminder of the importance of our faith as the love of Jesus Christ and his mission is the reason for Mount Saint Joseph Academy’s existence. It is wonderful that we will be able to gather every morning in chapel to remember who we are as the MSJ community. After all, MSJ is not a building. MSJ is not a place. We are MSJ and it is important to always remember why we are such a special community.  Keeping all of this in mind, we will be having our first school Mass on September 10th at 10am in our Chapel. We are all very happy that Monsignor McDermott will be our celebrant that day! All of our parents and families are invited to join us for this Mass.

Other important dates to remember include September 15th, 2014. We will be hosting a VIRTUS training at MSJ on this day at 6pm. It is extremely important for all our parents to attend a VIRTUS training as it is a requirement from the Diocese that all parents are VIRTUS trained before they are able volunteer at MSJ or at MSJ sponsored events. Also, if there are other people that parents know who would like to volunteer with our students, please pass the word that VIRTUS training is a requirement. If any one has questions about this training, please feel free to contact me at or Ms. Graves at

We are very excited about the start of our sports seasons. The teams are strong and determined. It is going to be a great year! Please come and support our teams! The football home opener will take place this Saturday at Saint Peter’s Field at 1:00pm. They will be hosting Windsor. The Girl’s Soccer Team hosted Arlington in their home opener last night. They played well but unfortunately lost 2-1. They will be playing at West Rutland on Thursday the 4th at 4:30pm and again on Saturday at Bellows Falls at 10am. The Cross Country Team will start off their season at Home (the College of Saint Joseph course) on September 16th at 4:30. The MSJ and CKS communities will be having a kick off pep rally on Thursday September 4th at 2pm at CKS. Our cheerleaders have a great program set for the afternoon; as they always do such a wonderful job, it is sure to be a great event! Speaking of Cheerleaders, Tracy Tedesco has put together a new program to involve younger girls called “Mini Mountie Cheer!”. It is for girls of all elementary ages and begins this Friday September 5th at 3:30 at CKS. The Mini Mounties will be at our home football games cheering on the team with our cheerleaders. The Mini Mountie program flyer is included with this letter.

In other news, there will be a Parents and Friends Club Meeting on Monday September 8th at 6:00 in the MSJ Library. It is really important that we have as many parents as possible involved in the PFC this year. They bring tremendous energy and support to MSJ and we are lucky to have them! Please plan on attending this meeting.

As an update, students are now able to buy water at lunch - the cost is $1.00 per bottle. We are still working on the other treats for students and there will be more information forthcoming.

Thank you for all you do for your students and for MSJ! It is going to be a great school year!
