November
1. American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont - In addition to demonstrating a strong commitment to civil liberties, each scholarship applicant must be a high school senior planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time degree seeking student, and have attained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Demonstrated financial need will also increase the student’s chances of qualifying for the scholarship.
- To be considered for the ACLU Youth Activist Scholarship, the local ACLU affiliate (ACLU-Vermont) must nominate the student and submit his/her application to the ACLU’s national office. It is essential that a representative from the ACLU of Vermont speak with the student first to determine if the student qualifies for consideration. The application process will be explained, questions will be asked about student’s involvement in civil liberties activism and, if the student qualify, send them the scholarship application forms. Completed application forms are due back to the Vermont ACLU by November 6, 2009.
2. Foundation for Individual Rights in Education – This is an exciting opportunity for seniors to practice, develop, and hone their writing and research skills, with the chance to win a $5,000, $2,500 or $1000 college scholarship. This competition is open to all high school seniors enrolled in an American high school, and the essay must be 700 – 1200 words. The deadline is November 6, 2009; the winners will be announced on December 11, 2009. Students may enter online at www.thefire.org/contests or through the mail.

1. KFC Colonel’s Scholars – Scholarships available up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need. The online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at www.kfcscholars.org.
2. Fireside Catholic Publishing - Essay Scholarship 2010 – Fireside Catholic Publishing will recognize outstanding Catholic High School seniors who are daily “putting their faith into action”. The authors of the five winning essays will receive $1000 cash awards for writing a 750 word essay on how their religious education is influencing their lives.
Only one student per school may participate. Please notify Guidance no later than November 20, 2009 if you would like to participate. If more than one senior is interested, essays will be submitted to MSJ by December 2, 2009 and faculty will determine which essay to present to Fireside Catholic Publishing.

1. Elks National Foundation – 2010 Legacy Awards -
Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years). The Foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards.11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time on January 8, 2010.

2. Vermont JCI Senate - Each year, the U.S. JCI Senate Foundation gives out (15) $1,000 scholarships nationwide. Each of the 50 states is allowed to submit 2 applications from high school seniors in their state. Judging begins with each state selecting its two applications to submit for national judging. These two winning applications frome ach state are then judged on a national level for one of the 15 national scholarships.
Applications for the United States JCI Senate Foundation may be found online only at www.usjcisenate.org. These applications should be filled out and sent to the Vermont address listed in the application packed by the due date. This date is a “postmarked by” date. Applications received after the postmark due date, those that are incomplete, or those sent to the National organization will NOT be considered.
The Vermont JCI Senate will be awarding two state winners, a $200 scholarship each. These two winning applications will then be the ones sent to the USJCI Senate Foundation for a chance at one of the 15 scholarships awarded nationally.
In addition to the two applications selected to be sent on for national judging, the Vermont JCI Senate will also be selecting the winner of the “Ernie Chadderdon Memorial Scholarship”. This scholarship is strictly a Vermont JCI Senate Scholarship based on need only. This winner will be awarded a $200 scholarship as well.

1. The American Legion – National High School Oratorical Program – All students in grades 9 through12, who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States, are eligible to participate in the program. The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program “A Constitutional Speech Contest” is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Scholarships of $1,500 to 18,000 available, check in the Guidance Office for more information. Deadline – February 1, 2010.
2. Vermont NEA Maida F. Townsend Scholarship – $1000.00 scholarships awarded to sons and daughters of Vermont NEA members. High School seniors applying to college, as well as undergraduate and graduate college students are eligible to apply. Students majoring in any discipline are eligible to apply; however, preference may be given to those majoring in education. Awards will be based on merit, not financial need. Students may reapply for the scholarship, but may receive an award only once. Application requirements available in the Guidance Office. Application Deadline: February 1, 2010
3. St. Andrews Society of Vermont Scholarship Foundation – Academic Scholarship - Three $500.00 scholarships awarded on the basis of previous scholastic records, three letters of recommendation, a letter of educational goals and financial need and SAT scores. Applications will be considered from Vermont residents or from St. Andrew’s Society of Vermont members and their families regardless of residency; who will or who are enrolled in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program. 5. PHADA Scholarship Program – Scholarships for high school seniors living in public or assisted housing at a PHADA member agency. Three scholarships will be awarded:

6. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship -
The AXA Achievementsm Community Scholarship Program brings advice and access to higher education into every community in which AXA has a presence. Every AXA Advisors’ branch office nationwide distributes up to twelve $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors who live and attend high school in their area.
Selection of winners, known as AXA Achievers, is made by our nonprofit partner, Scholarship America. An AXA Achiever must demonstrate:

- Determination to set and reach goals
- Respect for self, family and community
- Ability to succeed in college

7. Knights of Columbus Vermont State Council’s 40th Annual Scholastic Achievement Awards Program - Eight $600.00 scholarships to be awarded this year. Sons or daughters of a Knight of Columbus in good standing in a subordinate Council from within the Vermont jurisdiction are eligible. Merit scholarships will be awarded to four applicants with the four remaining awards presented to applicants, who in the opinion of the Scholastic Committee are most deserving. 8. Moody’s Mega Math Challenge will award $100,000 in high school math contest
High school juniors and seniors from Maine to Florida are invited to participate in the fifth annual Moody’s Mega Math Challenge for a chance to win part of $100,000 in scholarship prizes. The competition, which is entirely Internet based and free of entrance and participation fees, challenges teams of students to solve an open-ended, realistic, applied math-modeling problem focused on real-world issues in just 14 hours. The problem is unknown to teams until Challenge weekend (March 6-7, 2010) when they are able to download it and work on their solution. Registration is now open!

1. Italian American Club: 3 $1000.00 scholarships for secondary education for this year’s graduating seniors. Two of the scholarships will be awarded to students attending Mount St. Joseph Academy and Rutland High School. The remaing $1000.00 scholarship is available to students attending Rutland County High Schools. In addition there is a $500.00 scholarship available to relatives of members of the Italian American Club of Rutland, Vermont. Applications available in the Guidance Office. 2. American Legion Auxiliary National President’s Scholarship
There will be fifteen schoarships awarded for the 2009-2010. Three scholarships will be awarded in each Division of the American Legion Auxiliary; one in the amount of 2500.00; one in the amount of 2000.00; and one in the amount of 1000.00. Application requirements: complete application packet(available in guidance office), four letter of recommendation(principal or guidance, clergyman, two from adult citizens other than relatives), an original article consisting of no more than 1,000 words (“Honoring our Promise Everyday – How I Can Serve My Country and our Veterans”), a letter from a recipient organization verifying 50 hours of voluntary service, certified transcript of applicant’s high school grades, copy of ACT or SAT scores, copy of the FAFSA, a brief statement of the military service of eligible veteran including branch of service and dates of service, or photocopy of discharge papers. 3.Vermont Lions Hart Memorial Award – The Lion’s Club Internation is an organization that serves people all over the world. It began in the early nineteen hundreds and has grown and branced out into many different districts and programs. Some of these programs are: Sight First (sight & hearing aid), Drug Awareness and Opportunities for Youth.
Opportunities for Youth is running an award program for graduating high school seniors that have a disability or debilitating illness, either physically or mentally, is in need of financial assistance and is planning to attend college upon high school. This year three student awards will be offered. One winner will receive $1000.00 and two runners up will receive $500.00 each. In addition, the winner will be invited to attend a local Lion’s Club meeting where he/she will be presented with a plaque and honored.

4. VHS Third Annual Student Scholarship Program
VHS is pleased to announce our third annual scholarship program for graduating high school seniors of the class of 2010. We will award two$1000 scholarships and two $500 scholarships. Scholarships are available only to high school seniors graduating in 2010 and planning to attend a post-secondary program. Student(s) must have successfully completed (passing grade) at least one VHS course as a junior or senior. A media release form must be signed and submitted by each student (if over the age of 18) or student parent/guardian if under the age of 18. Students will be required to submit a multimedia presentation using video or still digital images with audio narration that addresses the following question: In what way has your VHS involvement helped you to gain a global perspective? 5. Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation – Ten scholarhsips will be awarded to students who live within the Price Chopper marketing area. Eight of these scholarships are for graduating high school seniors planning to attend college as fully matriculated, first year students for the Fall 2009 semester. 6. Rutland County Retired Teachers’ Association – $500.00
The Rutland County Retired Teachers’ Association wishes to award a $500.00 scholarship to a Rutland County senior who is planning to pursue a career in education. It will be available to a student studying for a bachelor’s degree leading to certification as a K-12 teacher as well as a student who is pursuing an associates’s degree in early childhood education or a degree needed to work as a para-educator. This scholarship will be sent to the recipient at the beginning of the second semester of attendance if the student has made satisfactory progress and is still attending. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

7. Hood Good Sport Scholarship - Three $5,000 Scholarships
The Hood Good Sport Scholarship Program, presented by Hood Milk, rewards high school student athletes with $5000 towards furthering their education at a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university. To be eligible, high school seniors must have proven their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning while participating in a varsity level sport. Those students must have also earned a cumalitive 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community. 8. Rotary Club of Rutland South, Vermont, Inc.
Rotary Club of Rutland South(RSR) will be awarding scholarships to deserving senior class students from five local high schools; Mount St. Joseph, Rutland High School, Stafford Technical Center, Mill River Union High School and Proctor High School. RSR will give five $1500 awards and five $1000 awards. Each school will be awarded no less than one $1500 scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance office or at www.rutlandsouthrotary.org. Student interviews will be conducted during the last week of March and first week of April.

9. Rutland Area Guidance Counselor Scholarships
Three scholarships will be awarded in honor of Sheila R. Poole & Mary Anne Eagan and in memory of Joe Flory to students pursuing a higher education in a “helping profession” such as education, human services & medical fields. This scholarship will be granted at the beginning of the student’s second semester of college. Application available in the Guidance Office. Application deadline: Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
10. Berkshire Bank Foundation 2010 Scholarship Program – Three $2000.00 Scholarships
Three new $2000.00 scholarships available to graduating seniors attending high school in Arlington, Ludlow, Manchester, and Rutland. Scholarship application available online at http://www.berkshirebank.com/about/foundations/scholarships/ or in the guidance office.
*Seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities.
* Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0; a total family annual income under $75,000, and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or technical school.
* Scholarship funds will be paid in December 2010 orJanuary 2011 for the second semester of the student’s first year directly to the college and not to the student. It will be the student’s responsibility to submit to the Foundation at that time an invoice for second semester tuition and fees, student ID number and college information.
* Berkshire Bank Foundation will accept only 5 applications per high school. Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are a qualified fit for this scholarship program. 1. Northwestern Vermont Vietnam Veterans of America:
a. Lyndon F. Murray, Sr. College Scholarship Grant – A single financial award in the amount of $1500.00 to a college-bound graduating Vermont High School Senior who is a relative of either a U.S. Military Serviceman currently serving on active duty or who has been honorably discharged, or an active duty or honorably discharged Vermont National Guardsman, and either of whom must also be a legal resident of the State of Vermont.
b. Michael Lawton College Scholarship Grant – a single financial award in the amount of $1500.00 to a college-bound graduating Vermont High School Senior who is a relative of either a U.S. Military Serviceman currently serving on active duty or who has been honorably discharged, or an active duty or honorably discharged Vermont National Guardsman, and either of whom must also be a legal resident of the State of Vermont.
The basis for disbursement of each financial grant to the recipient is an application process encompassing an essay contest in which a finalist and runner-up are selected by VVA Chapter 753′s Scholarship Committee for submission to the members for final approval through a vote process.

2. Christine Kelley Besaw Memorial College Scholarship – This scholarship is sponsored by the Rutland Area Christian School. Each year, the program hopes to award scholarships ranging in value from $1000 to $5000. High school seniors planning on attending a Christian college or Bible school may apply. Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in the Rutland Area Christian School and to former students. Full criteria and application available in the guidance office.

3. American Legion Auxiliary Past Presidents Parley Nurses Scholarship $500.00
Applicant must be entering nursing field (RN or LPN) to be eligible. Scholarship is awared to a high school senior who is a son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, great-grandson, or great-granddaughter of a veteran. Application available in the Guidance Office.

4. Sherburne Women’s Club – Community Service Award – The purpose of this $1000.00 award is to recognize a Killington-resident high school senior who demonstrates impressive service and volunteer work during his or her time in high school. The primary selection criteria for the award will be community service. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident and a resident of Killington, VT for his/her final two years of high school. Applicant will be selected according to the following considerations: volunteer work, community service, extracurricular activities, & dedication to others. The primary selection criterion for this Award will be volunteer work/community service. Application is available in the Guidance Office or by contacting Jennifer Iannantuoni (422-5402). 5. Sons of the American Legion Scholarship Application- Four seperate scholarships will be awarded- two in northern Vermont and two in southern Vermont. One scholarship for $1000 and one for $500 in each area. Any student who is planning to attend a trade school or technical college and whose grandfather, grandmother, step grandparents, father, step father, mother, step mother, adopted parents or grandparents and brothers or sisters are a member of the American Legion Family are welcome to apply for this scholarship. The winners are invited to the American Legion Convention banquet in June to receive their scholarship award. Complete application available in the Guidance Office. 6. “Buster” Brush Memorial Scholarship – Established in 2009 to honor Buster Brush, a devoted friend, youth mentor and community member. Deserving Seniors who exemplify the characteristics that were important to Buster: compassion, a strong work ethic, school spirit, leadership, community service and the desire to challange oneself are encouraged to apply. Buster had a passion for working with youth. As a long-time hockey coach, athletics were important to him, but his greater passion was for community service. The scholarship committee will be looking for students who may not be the highest academic achievers or star athletes, but who have distinguished themselves from their peers by their hard work and desire to help others and make a difference in their community. Two individuals(one from VT and one from NH) will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $1000 each, renewable for up to four yeras. 7. Vermont Golf Scholarships Scholarships will be granted annually not to exceed the four years that the recipient is enrolled in college. The Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund will annually determine the amount of the scholarships which, at present, are $1,000 per year awards. Applicants must be residents of the state of Vermont, a senior in a Vermont high school. Applicants must be in the top 40% of their graduating class or have a G.P.A. of at least 80.0 and a minimum combined SAT score of 1500. Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student at a college or university of their choice. Applicant finalists are required to attend an interview. Students selected for scholarship interviews will be notified by mail approximately 10 days prior to the interview. Students not selected will also be notified. Criteria used for selection are financial need, scholarship, and the applicant’s (not the parent’s) connection to the game of golf; such as golf team, working in golf shop, working for grounds superintendent, etc.

8. Joyce Parker Scholarship Fund $500.00
This is a health occupation scholarship for a two or four year program. Parent, grandparent, or great grandparent must have served in some branch of the US Military. Application available in the guidance office.

9. Omya Industries Inc. – 2010 Scholarship Program – Four $1000.00 scholarships
Omya will award four $1000.00 scholarships to four graduating area seniors who are planning to pursue a post-secondary education in a field of science or engineering. Requires two letters of recommendation, a copy of high school transcript, a personal essay describing one important activity or experience, in which you have played a leadership role, that has or will have an effect on your future goals. Application available in the Guidance Office.

10. Casella Waste Systems, Inc Scholarship – $500.00
The CWS scholarship will be awarded to a Mount St. Joseph Academy high school senior who will attend college as a full time student the fall after graduation. Application available in the guidance office.

10. Lorilee J. Foley Memorial Scholarship – Two $1500.00 scholarships and One $1000.00 scholarship. The Foley Family is honored to present a scholarship in Lorilee’s name to a two senior students – one graduating from Mount Saint Joseph Academy and the other from RHS, male or female, who is planning on continuing his/her education at a college, trade school, or apprenticeship program, etc. An additional scholarship of $1000 will be presented to a third senior attending either MSJ or RHS. Proof of acceptance into a college or program is required.
This scholarship is based on the theme of “Determination” and how it changed your life and/or those around you. Please submit a typewritten essay of no more than 250 words that addresses one or more of the topics below.
- Determination to overcome obstacles.
- Determination to better oneself in a persistant manner.
- Determination to make the community a better place.
- Determination to initiate, work through and complete a project or idea.

- School transcript to assess academic ability
- One letter of recommendation (Community or School related)

11. NEACAC’s 5th Annual Essay Contest - $250.00 scholarship to a junior or senior student
Six $250.00 scholarships will be awarded to one student from each of the six New England states who attends a NEACAC (New England Association for College Admissions Counseling). Winning essays will be selected on their origninality, content, and syntax. 12. Vermont Grocers’ Association 2010 Scholarship Program -
- Eleven $1500.00 scholarships (for academic year 2010-2011)
- One $2500.00 Ernest Hurst Memorial Award ($1500 for academic year 2010-1011 plus $1000 for 2nd year in college if 3.0 average is maintained)
- One $2500.00 Donna Hogan Award ($1500 for academic year 2010-1011 plus $1000 for 2nd year in college if 3.0 average is maintained)
Applicant must be: a graduating high school senior planning to attend an accredited two or four-year post secondary school or plans to attend for the first time an accredited two or four-year post secondary school in 2010 and has received a high school diploma, a Vermont resident OR affiliated with a VGA member in Vermont, demonstrate financial need and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than four weeks prior to the scholarship deadline listed below (three of the awards will be judged on merit only) AND be the dependent of a VGA associate or retail member store/company owner or employee located in or with responsibility for Vermont, be an employee of a VGA retail member store /associate member company in Vermont, employee must be employed a minimum of 15 hours per week or 750 hours per year and have been employed at a VGA retail member store or member company for a minimum of one year at the time the student applies for this scholarship.

13. Resident Scholarship Program sponsored by Housing Authority Insurance – 40 $2500 scholarships
This scholarship was developed to create educational opportunities for residents of member housing authorities. Must be a current public housing resident or Section 8 participant for at least 6 months. Public Housing Authority must be a participant in either HARRG or HAPI program through Housing Authority Insurance, Inc. GPA of 2.5 or higher required. Complete application and eligibility requirements available in the Guidance Office.

14. Winona Smith Scholarship – $500.00
A Winona Smith Scholarship grant will be awarded to a male or femaole student in his or her senior year of high school who has demonstrated an interest in civic participation and community service, who has a need for financial aid, and who is recommended by a teacher.

1. Rutland Town Education Association Scholarship- Two $300.00 scholarships. Applicants must be graduates of Rutland Town School who will attend some form of higher education upon graduation from high school. Application available in the guidance office. Application Deadline: May 1, 2010.
2. Rutland PEGTV Courcelle Scholarship – $1000.00 scholarship will be granted annually to one Rutland County high school senior who has exhibited a high level of proficiency and interest in the video arts and intends to study in the communications field at an accredited college, university or trade school. Complete application available in the Guidance Office. Application Deadline: May 1, 2010
3. Heritage Family Credit Union Scholarship – This $400.00 scholarship was created for the benefit of seniors at Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Student Criteria: Intends to pursue further education in the area of business; is an exemplary member of the student body; has demonstrated leadership qualities within his/her school; submits a short essay on the importance of sound personal finance. 4. OKEMO Mountain Resort Scholarships & Awards – All scholarship forms are available in the Guidance Office. Application Deadline: May 1, 2010
a. OKEMO Mountain Employee Student Scholarship Award – Awarded to an employee who is currently attending high school and in their senior year or to a college student enrolled in a degree program. Four $1000.00 awards.
b. OKEMO Mountain Employee Dependent Student Scholarship Award- awarded to an employee dependent who is currently attending high school and in their senior year or to a college student enrolled in a degree program. Four $1000.00 awards.
c. Thomas Croney Scholarship- is given by the employees of Okemo Mountain in memory of Tom Croney, an Okemo employee who set an example for all through his dedication to Okemo and its guests. This scholarship entitles the recipeient(an employee or employee dependents) to $1000.00 per year for two years toward a technical education. In order to receive the $1000 in the second year, the recipient must submit a transcript as proof of maintaining a 2.5 GPA in the first year of the scholarship.
d. OKEMO Mountain John F. Mueller Scholarship- This scholarship was formed by the staff of Okemo Mountain in memory of Dr. John F. Mueller. This scholarship is available to staff members or dependents who are pursuing a degree in medicine. One $1000.00 award.
e. OKEMO Creative Endeavors Scholarship- created by the Okemo Fine Arts Council to assist employees, as well as their dependents, in furthering their interests in the arts. Awardees may attend programs or seminars related to art, drama, music or creative writing etc. Past recipients may apply.(Age 13 & above must submit a 200 word minimum essay, 12 years old and under must submit a 100 word minimum essay. Reviewed depending on fund availability and upon request.
5. Knights of Columbus – Rutland Council # 232 – Two $500.00 scholarships
Rutland Council #232 of the Knights of Columbus will award two five hundred dollar scholarships to students seeking to continue their education. These awards are to be presented following the successful completion of one semester and enrollment in a second semester of study. Students graduating from high school in June 2010 are eligible to apply, providing the student or the student’s father is a member of Rutland Council #232, or the student’s father is deceased and was a member in good standing at the time of his death. Application available in the Guidance Office
Application Deadline: Postmarked by May 1, 2010
6. RRMC Auxiliary Scholarship -The Rutland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will award five scholarships in the amounts of one $2000 award; two $1,500 awards; and two $1,000 awards. The applicant must be accepted in an accredited college or university and plan to study in the field of health care. Complete application available in the guidance office. Application Deadline: Monday, May 3, 2010.
7. “B. Davis Scholarship” – $1,000 The creators of the “ScholarshipQuestHelper” website are offering a scholarship for 2010.
